Jim Brown has 20 years of experience working with communities and their natural places. Prior to Audubon, Jim was Director of TrailNation projects at Rails-to-Trails conservancy, assisting communities in building trail networks in cities and towns across the U.S. through design, advocacy, policy, fundraising and coalition building. Jim’s work at Rails-to-Trails was often featured at national and regional conferences focused on transportation, trail design, equity, and community development. Other experiences include work with the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, and working as an environmental educator. Jim also served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania working on environmental and agro-ecology projects. He has a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Morgan State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of New Hampshire.
At Audubon Mid-Atlantic, Jim enjoys working with chapters, staff, partners and elected officials to create climate and bird friendly policies which connect the dots between birds, climate change, community access to nature and bird friendly communities. When not at work, Jim enjoys exploring the parks and neighborhoods of Baltimore and beyond on bike and on foot with his wife and two sons.
