The National Audubon Society uses The Discovery Center as a facility for research and science-based conservation projects and educational programs throughout the Philadelphia region. Audubon engages individuals and communities by offering the resources and tools necessary to analyze, preserve and restore our natural environment. The Center's education programs challenge both young people and adults through hands-on exploration of the natural world in their own backyards and neighborhoods. The Discovery Center also allows visitors to connect to Audubon's national and international conservation initiatives, and it serves as a major migratory stopover location along the Atlantic Flyway for more than 200 species of birds and as a premier destination for birders in the Philadelphia region.

The Discovery Center hosts free Audubon-guided bird and nature walks at the Center and in many of the areas surrounding the Center for everyone to experience the joy of spotting a new bird, whether you’re a novice or an experienced birder. Visitors will enjoy Audubon’s interactive, educational workshops and classes to learn about the importance of planting native plants, habitat conservation around the reservoir, and Philadelphia’s place in the Delaware River watershed to inspire new lifelong passions of the outdoors and stewards of the earth. Audubon programming will also provide opportunity for community-tailored workshops, based on interests expressed at monthly community meetings.
