Tess Wilson is a transplant to the hills of Pennsylvania, originally from the Kansas prairie. She supports the important work of our chapters and provides tools and resources to conservation advocates in our region. The connections she maintains with the communities we serve is something she finds particularly special about this position, and is reminiscent of her work in libraries. Prior to joining Audubon, Tess worked for the Network of the National Library of Medicine, and before that, at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. As a librarian, her research explored methods of engaging younger generations in library advocacy, and she is a co-author of the 2020 book All Ages Welcome: Recruiting and Retaining Younger Generations for Library Boards, Friends Groups, and Foundations. She still maintains a strong connection to libraries as a privacy advocate with the Library Freedom Project and a vocal proponent of citizen science and data literacy. Outside of this work, she is a PA Master Naturalist and a mentoring trainer with the Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern PA. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering with her local watershed and making art of all kinds. She collects big books and small rocks.
